Why Stifle a Good Thing?

large

Do not rain on my parade

unless it’s with feathers,

or glitter

or golden moon powder

You may not like the floats I created

my choice of marching bands

or the tethered balloons

reaching for the endless sky.

Perhaps the spectators are not to your liking

the cheers from old and young alike

may be too loud for your ears.

If you want to rain on my parade

do not come

But if your heart opens

and your mind changes

I will let you in for free.

What Good Is a Window?

xWindow-treatment-for-facing-brick-wall-87184_203x203.jpg,qx13956.pagespeed.ic.2zQd2cMtxc

What good is a window

 if there’s nothing to see

no season of fall

no drifting of leaves

What good is a window

if there’s only a wall.

What good is a window

if it’s sealed on all sides

if it always stays closed

by your heart or your pride

What good is a window

If you’re underexposed.

What good is a window

if it’s locked tight, secured

or covered with drapes

and your view is obscured

What good is a window

If there is no escape

What good is a window

if it’s not open wide

to smile at skies blue

to let fear subside

So,

What good is a window?

It let’s you climb through

I Only Like It Hot

spring-rhapsody-happiness-and-cherry-blossom-trees-jane-small-1

Each time I see the color pink

I blink to clear my eyes

because that hue before me

makes me want to immunize

It’s not that I hate girly things

assigned to that one color

it’s just that if I owned that tint

my closet, it would holler

But any other color always

 makes my eyes squint smiles

I wear them any time or place

with flair, in every style

There is one way that’s quite okay

(and nothing is for naught)

in nature pink that sizzles

is the one that I call “hot.”

Filling the Sinkhole Together

There has to be a loophole

for us who still believe

in justice, freedom and our rights

amidst dishonesty.

This gap won’t last much longer

for together we’ll encroach

to fill the sinkhole with the hearts

we’ll never let them poach.

Hands united, standing tall

we’ll show a greater strength

than those who are unwilling

to detect our common link.

The Hidden to Light

Entertain me with your laughter

not your bravado

dance for me a jig

and smile when I join you

Extend your hand

and walk me across the water

into a field of wild flowers

Run without thought

to catch my hat from the breeze

Talk to me of topics peaceful

and fill me with stories of compassion

Take me to your favorite place

and share with me the secrets inside

Remove the metal around your chest

to show me the softness within.

And I will shelter you from the storm.

Prepare to Ring the Bell

liberty-anthony-zecca

His crude and callous spoken words

evokes in souls once light

darkness, anger, and despair

at him, the mighty “right.”

But do not fear enlightened ones

his sand is running low

his hourglass, once emptied

will restore the faith we know.

It’s That Time

Happy New Ears, everybody!

big-wild-ears-rabbit

May they be better at hearing

the plight of the needy

and skip past the parts

where life is too greedy.

May they open up wide

to those needing assistance

and hop through the world

with a healthy persistence.

May they make you stand taller

and proud of your straightness

so you will achieve

more moments of greatness.

Oh, and Happy New Year, too!

I Will Not Say

tranquility-2

When I lay dying upon my bed

when only past then lays ahead

With only farewell’s left to bid

I will not say, “I almost did.”

When sheets are warm but cold within

reflecting back on what has been

all the times of profound gladness

I will not say, “I almost had this.”

The ripples of my life to fade

I’ll leave a message well conveyed

as light turns dark from setting sun

I will not say, “I almost won.”

Back in Bad Ass Grandma’s hometown …

girl smiling… her granddaughter smiles. “Mom, when will Bad Ass Grandma come back from her vacation?”

“What’s so funny?”

“Thinking about what she did. She lifted one leg over something I couldn’t see then ran round and round while bouncing up and down.”

“Why …”

“She sang,

Round and round up and down

on the carousel horses.

Up and down, round and round

as the music plays.

The lights on top they shine so bright

as we go round and round

use your hands to hold on tight

as we go up and down.’

Then she sang it over and over again.”

“Yes, your grandmother is quite extravagant with her imagination. Was she still wearing a pony tail?”

Granddaughter laughed and trotted back to her room, saying, “I hope she’ll be home soon. She promised me the moon.”
