Sad, isn’t it?
What?
They’ve forgotten.
Yes. Very sad. Because they’re not elephants.
Huh?
Elephants never forget. They even teach their babies how to play in the mud. Elephant babies are lucky.
My parents always tell me to stop playing in sludge. I tell them that mud is not sludge. I tell them it’s magic fudge.
I like that, magic fudge. How could grown-ups forget how good it feels when it squishes between your toes and oozes between your fingers?
It’s like The Little Prince said – “All grown-ups were once children… but only few of them remember it.”
Yes. And “only children know what they are looking for.”
Will we be like them when we grow up?

I dunno. I keep trying to teach my grands that it’s OK to get dirty and get their hands dirty. we’re still working on that but they’ve turned into great worm hunters in my garden beds. 🙂

What a great reminder!!! We get so wrapped up in ‘adulting’ that we forget the simple pleasures that were once our whole world. Thank you … I think that tomorrow I shall go barefoot through a mud puddle … just because … I can! 🙃

I just might do that! Actually, earlier this year I went hiking with my friend Herb, and fell blat into a huge puddle of mud. He,, of course, had to take a picture of me covered in mud. Perhaps if I can find it I will post it!
