If you stay on one side
and I the other
how will I know the color of your eyes
what tune your voice plays when your words lilt into the air?
How will I know if humor is one of your senses
or if the shoes you wear have traveled far?
I want to know what made you grow
and what kept you stagnant
what made you smile
and what made you weep
If you stay on one side
and I the other
how would I ever be
enlightened?
Delightful response Carolyn, very much enjoyed your take.

Thanks so much, Michael. I’m glad you did.

The last two words are a surprise. I would have ended it how would I hsve known – depressing. Enlightened changes it to a beginning, not an end.

“How would I have known” were exactly the words I started to write but didn’t want to be too predictable. 😉

Thank you very much, Carolyn. I don’t paint often enough these days.

I don’t either. I’m too busy writing and playing with grand babies. 🙂

Grand babies definitely take precedence, don’t they? 🙂

Indeed. But if I had your painting talent, I would unbundle the brushes and oils and restart my engines.
